The 5.6x61 SE v. Hofe is a rimmed centerfire rifle cartridge designed for hunting and sport shooting. It was introduced by German gunsmith Georg von Hofe in the 1920s, and is based on a necked-down version of the .30-06 Springfield case.

The cartridge has a bullet diameter of .224 inches (5.6mm) and a case length of 2.4 inches (61mm). It is known for its high velocity, flat trajectory, and excellent accuracy, and is capable of delivering lethal performance on small- to medium-sized game animals.

The 5.6x61 SE v. Hofe is typically loaded with bullets weighing between 50 and 70 grains, with the most popular bullet weights being in the 60-grain range. These lightweight bullets allow for high velocities, which translates into flat trajectories and less wind drift.

The cartridge is commonly used for hunting small- to medium-sized game, such as deer, antelope, and wild boar. It is also used for sport shooting, where its flat trajectory and excellent accuracy make it a popular choice among target shooters.

C.I.P.
The Commission internationale permanente pour l'épreuve des armes à feu portatives ("Permanent International Commission for the Proof of Small Arms" – commonly abbreviated as C.I.P.) is an international organisation which sets standards for safety testing of firearms. (The word portatives ("portable") in the name refers to the fact the C.I.P. tests small arms almost exclusively; it is ordinarily omitted from the English translation of the name.) As of 2015, its members are the national governments of 14 countries, of which 11 are European Union member states. The C.I.P. safeguards that all firearms and ammunition sold to civilian purchasers in member states are safe for the users.
To achieve this, all such firearms are first proof tested at C.I.P. accredited Proof Houses. The same applies for cartridges; at regular intervals, cartridges are tested against the C.I.P. pressure specifications at the ammunition manufacturing plants and at C.I.P. accredited Proof Houses.
